One Minute Writer: Our Story

Tell us the story in just one minute of how you met your significant other – or your best friend.  I met my wife through a mutual friend.  Actually, I had a guy friend and my wife was friends with his sister.  We all got together for a birthday party and I knew she was the one from the first minute.  It only took me 2 weeks to actually ask her out though.  Being young and nervous about girls was my problem.  Now, 20 years later, … Read more

Writer At Work

I have to say, I have not been this motivated to write in quite a while. Lately, I have been eating/sleeping/dreaming about writing. So much so, that I have opened an account on Amazon to begin selling ebooks. I know, I am probably a few months away from having my project ready to go, but I happened to be in the middle of the thought process the other day, and poof – I was set up! As to my story line for the project. It’s … Read more

Flash Fiction for The One Minute Writer

This is my first ‘flash fiction’ ever!  It is for Friday’s writing prompt: Imagine there was another “gold rush” in America. What would it be like? Place yourself as an outsider watching from afar, on The One Minute Writer.   The man across the table was a codger with greying hair and side burns to match. His stern look said everything that it should about the time and life of his ancestors. He sat resolutely, as if waiting for purpose of life to be revealed presently. … Read more

The One Minute Writer

So, I was surfing the internet (is ‘surfing the net’ still a term being used?) today, when I come along a website for writing prompts.  It’s called The One Minute Writer, and each day there are new writing prompts posted, and there is a handy little timer on the site to track you writing time.  I gave today’s prompt a go, and I will certainly go back and add more time to the prompt, as one minute is just getting me warmed up! What are some … Read more

Revit Rendering

However much I would love to fill my days with writing fiction or any other of the 100+ hobbies I have, I do work.  My latest project has been one that does not come by very often.  It is a 11,000+ s.f. single family home.  I know, a little small, huh? Anyway, I started the project back around the middle of December and have been mixing my days on this project as well as a few other non-Revit projects.  I SO much prefer this project … Read more

Back to a Writing Goal

Over the years, I have had a great desire to write fiction.  I have started (and stopped) far too many stories to count, but never seem to follow through with them.  It’s not like I think they are garbage, well maybe some of them are garbage, but it’s just the want to write them to an end is never there.  I have decided it is time to stop with that and get something done! To start things off right, I have signed up for an … Read more

Drafting Table Revisited

Now that’s it’s been almost a month since my infatuation with the spendy drafting table from Pottery Barn, I have news! Being the creative wood worker type, I designed a table to ‘mimic’ the one from my last entry.  I was able to find a surplus of hardwood lumber (African Mahogany) on craigslist for a steal and had a fabricator in line to make the two half round table supports.  Then I found my new table. Yes, I bought a table instead of making my … Read more

Handcrafted Butcherblock / Cutting Board

A few weeks ago, I get an email request for a larger cutting board for a Christmas gift.  Having not really produced anything from the shop in almost a year, I was hesitant to take the job.  In the end, I did it, and I am happy I did.  They were elated with the end result, as was I.  I say ‘as was I’ because while I built the one custom order, I made one for myself.  To tell the truth, I had been wanting … Read more
