Shopping on Black Friday

For as long as I can remember, shopping the Friday after Thanksgiving has been something I have always taken part of.  It seems that it’s just a part of the Holiday season or something.  I am not very ‘anal’ about it though, as I am not out the door, standing in line to get one of 50 DVD players for $3.88.  No, I am a casual Black Friday shopper.  I get up, shower, eat some breakfast, and I’m out the door around 10:ish. The last few years, I have noticed that stores are competing with opening time for Black Friday … Read more

Tough Decision

Well, It’s been about a week since I so firmly boasted that I would be writing in NaNoWriMo again this year.  I made it just a few days before I pooped out.  I know.  I suck. It’s honestly ok.  I am ok with it.  I am just starting a new job, and i really need to focus on that.  I found myself disregarding work thoughts in lieu for writing/story thoughts.  Unfortunately, I NEED to focus on work right now.  If I had started the new job a month ago, and not on October 29th, I certainly could do both.  But as I … Read more

Osso Buco, my friend

About a month ago, I stumbled across a video on Yahoo, where some chef with a pretty bad Italian accent was making Osso Buco.  He was quite entertaining, so I watched the 10 minute video.  I am so glad I did.  The meal looked wonderful.  I mean I could taste the flavors through my computer monitor, it looked so good.  I mentioned this to my wife, and she was like “sure thing dear.  We can make that some time”. A few weeks later, I mentioned it to her, and she sounded like she didn’t want to give it a try, so we … Read more

Down another path in life

Isn’t it funny how when you think you have everything almost figured out, something comes along and pushes you into a new direction?  Well, that is sort of what happened to me this week. For the last several months, I have been working on my Design By Kohler website (which I am almost done – I know, I keep saying that) and have had the long term plan of giving self employment another go.  Probably in the LONG-LONG term, that is still there, but on Thursday, I accepted a position with another local architect.  I start the week of the … Read more

It’s a Sloppy Joe story, after all

Many years ago, the wife and I had a favorite Sloppy Joe mix that we would occasionally have for a quick meal.  It was also a cheap fix, so it was all good.  I would guess about 8 or so years ago, they stopped selling our preferred brand at any of our local stores.  It was called Not-So-Sloppy-Joe by Hormel.  We looked everywhere, but not in Colorado anymore.  We tried a few other brands, and they were just horrible.  so, we have been on a Sloppy Joe hiatus ever since. About a year and a half ago, I decided to try my own hand … Read more

This is crazy!  With all my unhappiness about customer service in this nation as of late, I FINALLY have a positive story to share. If you would jump into the WAY BACK machine, and arrive somewhere around 2005 (our best guess) you would find us buying a new garden hose caddy.  You know the type, where you hook your hose (garden variety, dummies) to this box (mind out of the gutter, now) and you wind it in.  Bonus for it not looking completely like a trailer trash addition to the back yard.  Not only did it wind up the hose, it had … Read more

Getting back in the saddle

Yes, it has been a long time…  I have spent a ton of hours over the weekend, trying to get back into the mindset of blogging.  I used to have a ton of ideas floating around my head, enough for dozens of entries at any given time.  I just had to reach in and grab one to post.  Now, I still have those dozens (if not more) ideas floating around, but my internal editor dismisses them as garbage even before I can start to get them on the screen.  Damn my mind! I did, however, log just about all my … Read more
